New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has created a world record as they laid a 75-km stretch of highway between Amravati and Akola in Maharashtra in just around 105 hours which is less than five days.

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways Nitin Gadkari, too took the micro-blogging site Twitter and shared a certificate from the Guinness World Records authorities confirming the same.

"The longest piece of asphalt/bituminous concrete laid continuously was achieved by Raj Path Infracon Pvt. Ltd. and Jagdish Kadam (both India) between Amravati and Akola Districts on NH53, India from 3 to 7 June 2022," says the certificate by the Guinness World Records.

"NHAI has registered its name in Guinness World Records by manufacturing 75 km of continuous bituminous concrete in a single lane on the stretch of NH-53 between Amravati to Akola," Gadkari tweeted.

He further added that "This 75 km single lane continuous bituminous concrete road is equivalent to 37.5 km of 2-lane paved shoulder road and a team of 800 NHAI_Official employees and 720 workers including a team of independent consultants were involved in the work which, on 3rd June, It started at 7:27 am on 2022 and was completed on June 7, 2022, at 5:00 pm."

The construction work of the Amravati-Akola Highway started at 6 am on June 3, which was set to be completed by June 7 and set a world record. In order to complete the work in the shortest possible time, 800 personnel and 700 workers, including highway engineers, safety engineers, and surveyors, participated in the scheme.

Earlier, the Rajput Infracon had made a world record by building a road between Sangli to Satara in 24 hours. On June 3, NHAI said it had offered an additional three highways totaling 247 km to its Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) as a part of the government's monetization policy.

NHAI also said that its InvIT in a statement had issued a dividend of Rs 0.79 paise per unit to its unit holders for the financial year ended March 31, 2022. InvIT was started with a portfolio of five toll roads totaling 390 kms spread across Gujarat, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Telangana.
